What Power Pivot is and how to access it
- What is Power Pivot and why does it matter for us in FP&A? Power Pivot is a powerful data modeling engine built right inside of Excel. With Power Pivot, we can bring in large, complex sets of data from various sources. We can establish relationships between them, and then we can analyze this data at scale, automate the updates, and present the findings. This obviously matters a whole lot to FP&A. Traditional planning analysis and modeling in Excel is amazing, but it has its limitations. When we have lots of data, worksheets, formulas, and calculations taking place, we can face performance issues and be burdened with manual updates. Well, power Pivot addresses a lot of that. In Excel, we have to use lots of formulas, sometimes very complicated ones to stitch data together through lookups and calculations. But with Power Pivot data can stay in its own clean tables.
