- [Narrator] Modeling and data analysis in Excel can be a challenge when trying to do it at scale. That's especially true when you're having to update formulas, ranges and links. It can be time consuming, extremely manual, but it doesn't have to be that way. Calculated columns, they create new fields within your data, one row at a time because they use DAX formula language. As you saw in a prior video, the calculations spill down an entire column. That means we can create formulas and calculations one time that apply to entire sets of data, and as new data is brought in from our backend systems, the calculations automatically take place. Let's begin this illustration with a simple example in the raw data itself, not a data model. In this file, I have three data sets, all declared as dynamic tables.
