Format cells using data bars
- [Instructor] When you summarize numerical data using a pivot table, you can make the data easier to read by applying a number format. You can also create a conditional format that's called a data bar, which adds color bars to a cell's background. The length of the bar reflects the relative value within the cell. And in this movie, I will show you how to create them. My sample file is 0503 data bars, and you can find it in the chapter five folder of the exercise files collection. On sheet one, I have a pivot table that summarizes the sum of order total, that is total sales for each of my sales regions. If I want to add a format to the background to make the relative values easier to figure out, I can click any cell in the pivot table and then on the home tab, click conditional formatting, and then point to data bars. You can create either a gradient fill or a solid fill. I'll show you what the gradient fill looks like. So if I click the light blue gradient fill, then the format has…
