- [Instructor] When you create a PivotTable, Excel displays the values in the data fields without any formatting. When you look at numbers in the hundreds and below, the lack of commas doesn't really matter. But when you add those values in a subtotal or grand total, the lack of thousand separators makes the values harder for humans to read. In this movie, I will show you how to change the number format for the data values in your PivotTable. My sample file is 04_04 number format, and you can find it in the Chapter 4 folder of the Exercise Files collection. On sheet one of this workbook, I have a PivotTable, and the numbers don't have any formatting applied. They're just general. If I want to change the formatting of a PivotTable value field, then I need to right-click any cell within that field, and then, from the shortcut menu that appears, click Value Field Settings.
