- [Instructor] One very useful capability in Microsoft Excel is controlling the program, especially the ribbon using the keyboard rather than the mouse. And in this movie, I will show you how to do that as related to pivot tables, my sample file is 08_04_Keyboard, and you can find it in the Chapter 8 folder of the exercise files collection. On sheet 1 of this workbook, I have a pivot table, and at present, cell B7 is the active cell. So I see the Pivot Table, Analyze and Design Contextual Tabs on the ribbon, and also the Pivot Table Fields task pane on the right. If I were to use the arrow keys to move off of the pivot table, then anything specific to a pivot table disappears. And then if I use the left arrow key to move back, then we get them back on the interface. To activate the ribbon using keyboard commands, press and release the alt key.
