- [Instructor] The various components of a graphic design project, the text, graphics, photos, and the page layout file all need to be saved in an appropriate file format. In this movie, we're going to look at the most common file types. Let's start with Photoshop. Native Photoshop files, or PSD files as they're known, can be placed in InDesign. Just make sure that when saving, you have maximized compatibility turned on. This will be on by default. While a PSD file will always work, sometimes, the file size might be bigger than you want it to be. In which case, you can save a copy as a JPEG and place this into InDesign. The advantage of a JPEG is that the file size will be significantly smaller. And because of the smaller file size, JPEGs are more portable, and easier to transfer or send by email.
