Two processing models
- Do you consider yourself to be a rational thinker? Do you think you're always making decision based on a cost benefit analysis? Unfortunately, your brain isn't always using logic. People are mainly driven by automatic processes, and most of the time, rational thought is not involved at all. The human brain processes information in two different ways. System one thinking is automatic, instinctive, fast, and controls decision making up to 95% of the time. This is helpful because they allow you to perform your daily activities quickly and efficiently. For example, I have been driving for many, many years and it's now an automatic process. However, it took a lot of effort when I was learning how to do it. System two thinking is slow and methodical, prone to errors, conscious and labor intensive. For example, when you're first learning a difficult skill, such as coding, you have to carefully pay attention to avoid mistakes. Any time system two is involved, mental resources are consumed…
