Knowledge graphs in use by digital companies

- [Instructor] Successful digital companies such as Google, Amazon, and Netflix have been using knowledge graphs since 2012. These companies are currently among the most valuable companies, and common success factor is that they have managed to use knowledge graph technology to optimally combine information about their customer, products and preferences, and, thus, tailor their services to the needs of their customers. Digital companies have, thus, built up a knowledge base about customers and products and can use knowledge graphs to link this information with each other. To get started, let's look at these examples of how Google, Amazon, Netflix use knowledge graphs. Search engines, on the internet, can use knowledge graph technology to improve search results. Google has been using this technology since 2012. Currently, companies are starting to use knowledge graph technology for enterprise search to improve their knowledge management. One example are research departments and pharma companies that use knowledge graphs to analyze scientific articles in the COVID research. In e-commerce and the media industry knowledge graphs are used to better understand customer preferences, and provide users with recommendations for future purchases, examples are Amazon and Netflix. Knowledge graphs are also deployed to improve knowledge management for enterprises. For example, Microsoft has introduced knowledge management services like Viva Topic and SharePoint Syntex to support the exchange of knowledge in the organization. These new services use AI and graph technology to provide users with the relevant information that they need for their work.
