- [Instructor] Now that we know what Apache NiFi helps us with, let's get started. Let's download and set up Apache NiFi on our local machine. I'm currently here on my Mac OS machine and I'll show you how to get set up with NiFi on a Mac OS. If you're a Windows user, I suggest you move on to the next movie. It's only the install process that's really different between Windows and a Mac. You should be able to use Apache NiFi in the same way on both. Now you need to have Java installed on your machine, and I do. Let's check out the version of Java that I do have. It's Java 11. Any recent version of Java beyond Java eight should work. Now you need to know the home folder for your Java installation. I'm going to run user libexec Java home for version 11 and here is the path to my Java home directory under the forward slash library folder contents home.
