Why employee experience matters
- Remember when employee experience meant free snacks and ping pong tables? Today, it means the difference between keeping and losing your best employees. In a world where AI is reshaping industries, one thing remains unchanged, the critical role of the human experience. Let's say you are going through interviews with two similar companies. One is very organized and clear about how many rounds of interviews you have and who they were with. The interviewers showed up on time, they asked you different questions about your experience and skills. The other company changes the interview schedule with you last minute, the interviewer showed up clearly having no idea what role you were even applying for, and asked you irrelevant questions. Which company would you be more excited to continue the conversation with? Now, imagine you accepted the offer and are eager to get started at your dream company. A week before you start, you receive a note from your future manager letting you know what the first couple weeks will look like, who your onboarding buddy is, you stakeholder get to knows are already on your calendar, and your laptop arrives with clear login and set up instructions along with IT contact numbers. On day one, your manager welcomes you virtually and introduces you to the rest of the team. You are invited to a team launch with an e-gift card delivered beforehand. Let's also think about employee experience for those who already work in your organization. Imagine your employees spend their day doing work they enjoy getting help from their colleagues and support from their manager. How do you think their productivity might be compared to employees who spend most of the day dealing with tech issues, a toxic manager and have no resources to do their job? This is why employee experience matters. To attract and retain top talent, companies must use data analytics to understand employee needs. By using data to enhance the human experience for employees, companies can foster a culture where everyone thrives.
