- As companies strive to create a more inclusive and diverse workplace, they often face a challenge, how to measure diversity, equity, and inclusion, or DEI, You've likely heard the famous saying, "Diversity is being invited to the party, and inclusion is being asked to dance." That sounds lovely, but doesn't exactly help with measurement. Let's start with diversity. You can measure diversity as the self-reported representation of different demographic groups in your workforce as a starting point. For example, how many women are there and what percentage of the organization do they represent? Besides gender, you can do the same for age, race, ethnicity groups, veteran status, disability status, and more. But it's not just a raw percentage of demographic groups that play a role in the company's diversity.
