Three levels of data-driven decision-making

- Business leaders make decisions all day, every day, and most of them involve data. So think about the range of decisions that you're making that require data. It could be that you have just a little hunch and you need a little piece of data to confirm a little adjustment, or it could be a huge decision like crafting a long-term strategy that disrupts your entire industry. That's a big decision. The three types of decisions are based on the volume of, or the complexity of, data that is required to make the decision. There are discrete decisions, which use a single piece of data. Operational decisions use dashboards with data over time. And strategic decisions require deep and rich contextual data. So, let's dive in. First, discrete decisions. These decisions are quick, low-stakes choices that require minimum data. They might require one or two little data points to help you get unstuck.
