From the course: Data-Backed Decision Making

Making better decisions

- Imagine coming across the finest library in the world with all of humankind's most amazing literature. Now imagine you can't read. That amazing library? Useless. So you learn to read, you take it slow, but eventually you learn faster and faster and start to consume the thoughts of the world's best philosophers and appreciate the stories of people from other times in different lands. You gain knowledge. Data literacy does not mean becoming a statistician or a mathematics professor or a data scientist. That would be like asking a first grader to read Shakespeare. It's just not going to happen, and it's really not even a good idea. My name is Jim Sterne, and I've spent the last 20 years putting data to work in practical applications. I've written a dozen books on online marketing, and every one of them talks about data. As co-founder of the Digital Analytics Association, I created this course to take the mystery out of data to help you recognize the potential pitfalls of data and so that you know how to get the most out of data. By the end of this course, you will have a greater appreciation for data and be able to apply it to decision making, and be well enough informed to decide how deeply you want to dive in. You are now taking a positive step to becoming more data literate, which can help you improve your career success and decision making process. So dive in. I promise this won't be painful. This isn't a math class. This is just learning a new vocabulary that will open up a new way of thinking for you and give you an edge.
