- [Instructor] Measures of spread complement measures of centrality. Now, when we talk about spread, we want to know, if we're looking at a particular column or a variable, and we've got a set of different values, central tendency tells us, if we were to average them, where do they tend to fall from a central perspective? Another thing we want to know is, well, how far apart is the max and the min? Well, that particular measure of dispersion is the simplest of the measures of dispersion, and that's called the range. Now, sometimes we also want to know, where are most of the values falling? Now, we know, for example, mean and median will give us a good measure of central tendency. But then the interquartile range, or IRQ as it's often called, will show us the range of the middle 50% of the data.
