- How do you become data literate? And what, by the way, is digital dexterity? I hear you. Data is everywhere, no matter your industry or position. And in order to make it as a business analyst, you need to be pretty well versed with understanding and filtering data to get to business insights. Let's define these two terms, data literacy and digital dexterity. According to Gartner, data literacy is "the ability to read, write, and communicate data in context." This includes an understanding of the data sources and constructs, analytical methods and techniques. It also refers to the ability to describe the use cases, application, and resulting data value. Data literacy is an underlying component of digital dexterity. This is an employee's ability and desire to use existing and emerging technology to drive better business outcomes.
