- By now, you know how to use AI to help your team. But just like the flight attendants on an airplane remind you to remember your own oxygen mask, not just others, you can, and should, use AI to help in your own development as well. As a manager, you have a boss yourself, and depending on your organization, other resources, like a coach or HR, but you may need help in a specific moment. And humans, your boss and others, aren't always available at a moment's notice, but AI is. AI can provide personalized insights that you need to enhance your leadership skills without the added pressure of finding time and other resources. Your newest coach is at your fingertips. We'll stick with ChatGPT so make sure that you still have a second window with it open. Let's start with an easy example. When you receive a performance review, ideally your own manager will guide you on how to incorporate that feedback. But many managers, even those at the top of your organization's ladder, haven't been trained on how to provide actionable tips. When that happens, it's crucial for you to take initiative. So ask ChatGPT, "How can I respond if my manager gives me feedback without direction on how to implement it?" Now you've been proactive and can use AI to help to create that plan. Try it out. Think about a piece of feedback that you've heard recently. Pause and ask ChatGPT how to implement that feedback and create your own leadership plan. You'll be well on your way to having a sketched-out development plan in seconds. And this is just one example; as a leader, you can use AI in a million ways for your own development.
