Let me tell a story about a story. In this story, imagine you're in a meeting trying to convince your leadership team to invest some major dollars in a new program for improving employee satisfaction. You can either start off talking about the project, show a few slides, and then rattle off the list of features your vendor provided. Or you could start by sharing a story about how a company in your industry implemented a similar program. You tell them, after launching their employee satisfaction initiative, the company saw a 10 percent improvement in engagement scores. But here's the kicker. That 10 percent boost in engagement translated to a 20 percent increase in overall productivity within six months. It seems pretty obvious to me which approach would be more likely to get people's attention.
