The Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) suggests the primary role of a project manager is communication. It is not surprising project failures can usually be attributed to one primary factor: poor communications. Effectively communicating project status, understanding stakeholder views and needs, preventing scope creep, keeping the team focused on the goal, and ensuring the project has the resources and skillsets required are just a few of the communications project managers must do well. In reviewing lessons learned for many project failures, references to poor communications are usually cited as a central theme. Additionally, research also suggests poor communication is usually the root cause of project failures. This paper discusses a novel view of communication channel complexity by addressing communication mediums. In the discussion, the message content is aligned with the medium used to ensure effective and timely communications. The conclusion is project managers who both identify and influence the use of communication mediums with defined message content produce exponential project management influence, leading to exponential project management success.

Multitasking seems to be one of required skill sets in today’s highly-tasked workforce. As a matter of fact, it seems that if you’re not multitasking, there must be something wrong with you - you’re not perceived as a high achiever. This book discusses multitasking as you have never heard it before. It describes how the process of tasking really works, what trying to multitasking can do “to” you, and much better ways to excel and achieve. Mike has merged his research findings with his rich experience and education to form unique and simple model on how we perform much better. In describing the model, he discusses and demonstrates proven methods and tools to perform “advanced multitasking “in today’s complex and fast-paced workplace. Advanced multitasking leverages your four cognitive brains (yes, four) to maximize performance. The popular thinking of left/right-brain processing does not work here. Your tasking brain works quite differently and you must clearly understand this to make the most of your tasking potential. The bottom line is the Advanced Multitasking process works more effectively to get more done, in fewer hours, with less anxiety, and more fun.
