Systems and methods for a generic data model for the representation of an arbitrarily complex environment are disclosed. These systems and methods allow the representation of any logical or physical entity and the associations and dependencies between these entities. Components may be used to represent the entities while relationships may be used to represent the associations and dependencies between the entities. A typing system may be utilized in conjunction with a generic data model to define a hierarchy of components and relationships for use with a particular category of environments. The data structures associated with a generic data model may be stored utilizing a table schema which does not change with the addition of new data structures or types of data structures. Applied data models created from these generic data models may be searched utilizing a query language which allows efficient searching of the applied data model, and structuring of the concomitant results.

For the seventh consecutive year, the Austin American-Statesman is helping to answer the question: What makes a workplace a great place to work? As we have done the past six years, the American-Statesman’s 2016 Top Workplaces of Greater Austin project identifies the best places to work in the Austin metro area.

Thanks to survey data from their employees, all these newcomers have earned their way into the American-Statesman’s 2016 Top Workplaces of Greater Austin project.

After surveys of more than 27,000 workers at 161 area companies, the American-Statesman’s 2016 Top Workplaces of Greater Austin project narrowed the field to 100 employers worthy of earning Top Workplace designation.

The surveyed companies employ more than 45,000 people in the Austin area. The surveys and selection process were handled by WorkplaceDynamics LLP, an Exton, Pa.-based company that has expertise in employee engagement surveys.

The Statesman solicited nominations for the process, but did not select the 100 companies who made the list — and doesn’t the know which companies were nominated but did not make the top rankings. That was by design, to encourage companies to participate without risking embarrassment if they didn’t make the list of ranked companies. The surveys asked workers to rate their employers on issues such as leadership and direction, ethics and values and how well employees are treated. Based on the survey results, workers are looking for more than just a paycheck. They value such traits as schedule flexibility, open communication with management, the opportunity for training and career advancement and the opportunity to make an impact on their company and on the people it serves.
