AI-Assisted Messages in Recruiter

Last updated: 2 months ago

In LinkedIn Recruiter, you can compose and send unique, personalized messages to candidates with Artificial Intelligence (AI) assistance through AI-Assisted Messages. AI-Assisted Messages draws on profile information provided by the candidate and combines it with your job requirements to create a fully personalized message.

We leverage the data that our customers and members have chosen to share with us on our platform, and use AI to draft personalized outreach messages. The following data fields are currently used for AI generation (where available):

  • Recruiter information: Name, title, company name, company information, and custom content
  • Candidate information: Title, candidate company, open to work, company follower, past applicant, and mutual connections
  • Job information: Job title, job company, skills, location, workplace type, compensation, and employment type

Note: When you're drafting messages in a project with an active or draft job post, we get the job information above directly from the associated job. If there is no job post found within the project, we check if this information is available with Hiring Assistant (only available to a subset of customers at this time). If this is not found, we use the project details where available (job title, location, etc.). If you're drafting messages outside of a project, we assume that you're hiring for the recipient's primary or most recent position.

Here's a tip

To get the best quality of AI-generated messages, we recommend you draft messages when you're working within a project with an associated active or draft job post.

Draft and personalize a message

When you click the Compose icon associated with a candidate, you can click Draft with AI in the Compose Message window to draft a personalized message specifically for that candidate. Once the message is drafted, you can send the message, or edit the content and then send it.

You can also customize the inputs into the AI model to generate a message that contains the information you want. Once you've generated an initial message, click the Draft settings icon at the bottom of the message. Under Draft settings on the right side of the message, you can use the Message language dropdown to redraft the AI message in another supported language. You can adjust the message length and tone (currently available in English only), or select and deselect elements to include in the message. After you update the specifications you'd like, you can click Draft again for single messages or Draft for all for bulk messages to generate a new message.

When you pick a different message language in a 1:1 conversation, Recruiter immediately regenerates the draft in that language and remembers your choice until you send the message or close the composer. If the Custom company pill is turned on, it’s only included when the language is regenerated to English.

Note: AI-Assisted Messages will include skills in the message draft if the skills are relevant to the job. If you’re a LinkedIn Recruiter Professional Services customer and are recruiting on behalf of clients, AI-Assisted Messages will tailor the message accordingly.

Add custom content to a message

You can create and add custom content to a message from the Draft settings menu. Any custom content you create is available to you only and isn’t visible or accessible to other recruiters on your contract. To personalize your message with custom content, click Custom content to add additional information, such as details about your company benefits. In the Custom content field, enter up to 500 characters, add a name in the Display Name field, then click Save. You can insert the custom content in all AI-assisted messages on your contract, until you edit or delete it.

AI-Assisted Messages will insert custom content contextually into the message draft. To edit the custom content, locate the custom content in the Company info section on the right, and click the Edit icon next to the display name. To delete the custom content from the Draft settings section, click the Edit icon and click Delete.

Important to know

You can’t include both custom content and About Company at the same time in a message. You must click the custom content element to add it to a message draft; it won’t be automatically added to a message. About Company personalization is only available to LinkedIn Recruiter customers whose language is set to English.

Provide feedback on a message

You can provide feedback on AI-Assisted Messages directly in the body of the message. Click the Thumbs up icon if AI-Assisted Messages performed well or click the Thumbs down icon if AI-Assisted Messages performed poorly. You can provide additional information that will help to improve the AI-Assisted Messages generation model.

Auto draft messages

Auto drafting of AI-Assisted Messages allows you to start composing a message with an AI-assisted message that you can edit and send. You can turn on auto drafting of AI-Assisted Messages by default at the contract level as an admin under Product settings > Preferences, or at the seat level as a recruiter under Product settings > Messaging.

Send bulk InMail messages

Important to know

When you use AI-Assisted Messages to draft bulk messages, any edits you make to one draft apply only to that message, not to the others. Please review and edit each AI-generated draft individually. (Note: If you change the Message language in Draft settings while bulk messaging, messages will be redrafted in the new language for all recipients at once.)

You can draft an InMail message with AI-Assisted Messages and send it to up to 25 candidates at once. You can also draft bulk follow-up messages. If you select a personalization element to include in the message, AI-Assisted Messages will include the message details relevant to those candidates. For example, if you select “Open to work”, AI-Assisted Messages will include relevant message details for candidates who have the Open to Work signal enabled on their profile.

You can enable bulk auto drafts at the seat level for yourself, or at the contract level if you’re an admin on your Recruiter contract. If you currently have auto drafting turned off at the contract level for InMail messages, the auto draft setting will be automatically turned off for bulk messaging. At the seat level, you can turn on auto drafting for single and bulk messages in Product settings under AI preferences. Admins can turn on auto drafting for their contract in Product settings under Preferences.

Touch up a template

Who can use this feature?

This feature is available when drafting initial recruiting outreach messages that use an English template with more than 300 characters. At this time, LinkedIn Recruiter Professional Services customers can only touch up a template in 1:1 messages, not bulk messages.

When you draft a message using a template, you can click the Touch up or Touch up for all button at the bottom of the message to refine it. AI-Assisted Messages will incorporate relevant candidate information into your draft to create a personalized message. You can click Revert to revert the message draft to its original state, or click Send or Send to all to send the message.

View the performance of AI-Assisted Messages

You can check the performance of AI-Assisted Messages in the Recruiter InMail report. To view the InMail report from your Recruiter homepage, click Reports and select InMail from the dropdown.

Important to know

Candidates won't be notified if a message was drafted using AI assistance.
