Feature restrictions - Content violations

Last updated: 2 months ago

If you repeatedly post or share content that doesn’t comply with our Professional Community Policies, LinkedIn may permanently restrict your access to certain features. When that happens, LinkedIn will notify you both by email and on LinkedIn. Some violations of our Professional Community Policies  will still result in permanent account restriction.

What features are restricted?

The following features may be restricted after repeated violations of our Professional Community Policies:

  • Creating content, which includes posting, reposting, or editing past posts

  • Commenting or editing past comments (including live comments and replies to comments)

  • Starting a new message conversation with connections of any degree (including through sending/sharing content)

Your access to LinkedIn features other than those mentioned above will not be impacted, including for example, your ability to:

  • View content

  • Apply for jobs

  • Reply to recruiters or anyone who directly messages you

  • Continue existing private conversations

  • Delete any of your past posts or comments

  • Block other members

  • Control who can see or comment on your existing posts

Feature restrictions applied to your individual account will also apply to the same features on Pages you own or manage. Any additional page administrators on your Pages will still be able to update the Page.

How can I appeal a content-related feature restriction?

To remove a content-related feature restriction, you’ll need to successfully appeal the underlying content removal decisions that led to the restriction. You can do that by clicking on the "View details" link in our feature restriction notice email, which will take you to a notice page about the most recent content decision that triggered the restriction and how you can appeal it. To appeal multiple removal decisions, reference other restriction notice emails sent to your email and follow the same process.

What can I do if I’ve successfully appealed but still have restricted features?

It may take some time after you receive the email confirming the removal of feature restrictions for access to be fully reinstated. If feature restrictions are still in place, you may have violated multiple policies in a repeated manner. Check if you have received multiple emails informing you of a feature restriction. Follow the same appeal process as above with the other policy.

Why am I being asked to verify my identity to restore access to my account or gain access to certain LinkedIn features?

We may ask you to verify your identity or workplace if we’ve determined that your account might be compromised or fake or if we need additional authenticity signals to make certain LinkedIn features available to you. If we do make this request, it’s not the result of a content-related feature restriction. Adding a verification to your profile does not change the status of a feature restriction due to content violations. Click here to learn more.
