Troubleshoot message sending issues on LinkedIn

Last updated: 3 months ago

If you can’t send messages on LinkedIn, try these troubleshooting steps. After each step, try sending the message again to see if the issue is resolved. This can also help to identify the cause.

Important to know

You can’t message a member if they’ve chosen not to receive InMail messages in their message preferences settings.

  • If you’re sending a message to a non-connection, check if you have adequate InMail message credits.

  • Try sending a message on a different browser or in incognito/private mode.

  • Disable any browser extensions.

  • Clear cache and cookies from your current browser.

  • If you’re using a VPN, turn it off.

  • If you’re using a workplace issued device, try logging in from a different device. If the issue persists only on a workplace issued device or work VPN, contact your workplace IT department.

If these steps don’t resolve the issue, please contact us with the following details:

  • HAR file of the issue

  • Screenshot of the error message

  • Profile URL of message recipient
  • Message content which can be sent to recipient
  • Permission to replicate issue by sending message to intended recipient.
