, Earlier this spring, the UM Upper Chesapeake Health Medical Center Aberdeen Emergency Department team participated in a successful decontamination drill with York County’s Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station (PBAPS). The drill, which included treating a simulated patient with radiation contamination, provided emergency medical services, including radiological exposure treatment, for PBAPS staff and contractors. This training helps ensure we’re prepared to deliver the highest level of care in any situation — protecting our communities and supporting our neighbors when they need us most. 👏 Kudos to the UM UCMC Aberdeen ED team for their excellent work and commitment to safety!

“I Would Not Want to Work with Anyone Else…” 💙 Hi everyone, I’m Sarah Gonzalez, an Interventional Radiology Technician at the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center. I want to take a moment to thank my incredible IR team. Sometimes our days can get unexpectedly hectic, with plans and schedules changing at a moment’s notice. But no matter what comes our way, this team always steps up, adjusting, working together, staying professional, compassionate, efficient, and strategic. I wouldn’t want to work with anyone else but these amazing individuals. Praise for a job well done — every day! 👏

Congratulations to Jaimi Hall, MSN, RN, from the Birthing Center at the University of Maryland Shore Regional Health at Easton, on being honored with a DAISY Award! Jaimi was nominated by a patient and her fiancé, who praised her for her clear communication, compassion, and unwavering support during labor and delivery: “Jaimi explained everything to us, answered all our questions, and made us comfortable. During labor, she was incredible — the encouragement she gave during delivery was awesome!” Thank you, Jaimi, for showing what extraordinary nursing looks like every day. 💙

At 22 weeks pregnant, Taylor Niemetz found out she had breast cancer. What followed was a carefully coordinated treatment plan built by her team across the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center Medical Group, the Tate Cancer Center, and the University of Maryland Medical Center for Advanced Fetal Care — designed to protect her and her baby. Months later, she rang the bell to mark the end of treatment, with her daughter Maya by her side. This is what it means to be UMMS Inspired.

When a patient without insurance or local family support needed end-of-life care, Adrienne Young, case manager at UM Charles Regional, went above and beyond. She located all six of the patient’s adult children, arranged virtual visits, and ensured a safe discharge to an assisted living facility under hospice care. Adrienne was recognized with the Shining Star Award for Patient Safety for her extraordinary compassion, resourcefulness, and commitment to patient dignity. Thank you, Adrienne, for showing us what it means to lead with heart. 💙

At UMMS, our High Reliability Journey to Zero Harm empowers every team member — no matter their role — to speak up when something isn’t right. At UMMS, our High Reliability Journey to Zero Harm empowers every team member, no matter their role, to speak up when something isn’t right. Lorna Brown, an Environmental Services team member at the University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center, recently did that. She voiced her concerns about a patient trying to get out of bed. Her quick action allowed the care team to respond immediately, providing life-saving BiPAP support and an ICU transfer. Lorna was honored with the Josie King Award for Patient Safety for her dedication to patient safety. Thank you, Lorna, for living our HRO principles and reminding us that every voice matters in our journey to zero harm. 👏
