Design-empowered Nature. Nature-empowered Design.
About us
Envision a future of complete synergy between Nature and humanity, where human-made and Nature-grown become indistinguishable. OXMAN is a new kind of company fusing design, technology, and biology to invent multi-scale products and environments—allowing design to empower science and science to empower design. As activist designers, we call for a fundamental shift from human-centric design to Nature-centric design. Categorical delineations between climate change and global pandemics, loss of biodiversity and loss of empathy for one another give way to authoring systems that address manifold challenges. Through this shift, we open ourselves up to moving beyond mere maintenance of Nature toward its radical betterment.

What if the future of design lies not in separating science from art or humanity from nature—but in weaving them together? In our documentary, Nature x Humanity, we present a visionary approach to material ecology that challenges conventional boundaries. It’s a call to design with, by, and for Nature. We are honored to be featured in Lifestyles Magazine. From her grandmother's garden to an innovation lab in the heart of New York City, Neri's journey has spanned medicine, architecture, computation, and nature itself. What began with childhood wonder has grown into OXMAN, operating at the intersection of design, science, and sustainability. Our lab is where robotic arms meet chemistry. We ask questions like: Can we reconstruct lost smells of ancient forests? Can we grow a product instead of assembling? It’s tikkun olam: a commitment to healing a broken world. We invite you to explore how we're building a future where humanity and nature don’t compete—but collaborate. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eymZACw4

Our controlled environment chambers —crafted through an incredible four-year partnership with Percival Scientific —are a testament to what’s possible when visionary collaboration meets precision engineering. These climate "capsules" are hubs of discovery, enabling cutting-edge research that redefines how we interact with our environment. By seamlessly blending nature and technology, OXMAN is pioneering a future where sustainability isn’t just a goal—it’s embedded in every material, product, and space that we create.

On International Women's Day, I wish to thank all of the women who have joined our efforts to make the world a better, more meaningful place. During challenging times such as these, it is humbling to rediscover the essence of womanhood. You are all agents of change, mastering an artful aptitude for balance and harmony across the synergetic forces of strength and softness, instinct and insight, care and courage, earnestness, and direction, listening and leading. Wives, mothers, sisters, and creators: let us come together on this special day to acknowledge each other and applaud the blurred consciousness behind this day elevating not one, but a multitude of “agencies”. --Neri Oxman

“One place, one material, one biome” - Neri Oxman Made entirely from PHAs (polyhydroxyalkanoate), OXMAN's shoe series is designed to break down naturally over time, providing a sustainable alternative to the fast fashion cycle. The shoes are created using the Oᵒ technology, which enables designers to create products with programmed decomposition for the benefits of ecosystems and their surrounding environments. In an exclusive interview with Concept Kicks, Neri Oxman explores the inspiration behind the project, the innovation driving it, and the future of footwear. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/dzsiYpgv

Introducing the EDEN platform, where we ask: What if an object benefited and transformed its environment for the better? The research and design platform considers buildings as living ecosystems rather than a static object. As a building is constructed -- or grown -- designers consider how it may empower Nature. Unlike 'net-zero' construction, which focuses on reducing negative impact, EDEN aims to enhance ecological health by developing new forms of ecosystem-based construction that create value for the natural world across multiple biological kingdoms.
