FARA is proud to announce the recipients of the 2025 FARA Fellow Award, an award established to recognize young investigators who have demonstrated or hold promise for outstanding research achievements in Friedreich's Ataxia (FA) and will commit their early career to FA research. The aim of the program is to attract and retain talented young scientists to the FA research field by providing mentorship, training and networking opportunities. Wrapping up an incredible week visiting partners for our Cancer Grand Challenges SAMBAI in Nigeria (Abuja and Benin City) and Ghana (Cape Coast and Kumasi). Recent advances in our understanding of the genetic underpinnings of neuropsychiatric disorders have illuminated the multifaceted nature of how mutations affect neuronal function. Given the large number of genes significantly associated with risk for neuropsychiatric disorders, a critical unanswered question is the extent to which diverse mutations, sometimes affecting the same gene, will require tailored therapeutic strategies. A particular focus has emerged around the neurexin-1 gene, known as NRXN1, which has been implicated in various severe neuropsychiatric disorders when affected by copy number variants.
