Our mission is to distribute food to our neighbors in need by mobilizing our giving community and volunteers.
About us
No one should have to choose between paying a bill or putting food on the table for their family. Food for Others is one of the largest distributors of free groceries in Northern Virginia, serving as a safety net for food insecure families. We provide food through 4 programs: 1. Emergency Food operations at our warehouse (open Monday-Friday, 9:30am-5pm) provide 3-5 days’ worth of non-perishables as well as milk, eggs and other fresh food to people referred to Food for Others by Fairfax County CSP and various social service providers. Those clients who qualify based on low income may also receive monthly food supplements that we order on their behalf from the USDA Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP). 2. Neighborhood Site distributions provide food to individuals and families via volunteers who pick up food at our warehouse and deliver groceries to low-income neighborhoods. This occurs every evening, Monday through Friday, serving 11 sites. 3. The Community Partners program provides bulk food items to over 22 community partners on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. This includes faith-based organizations, homeless shelters and other groups serving at-risk residents facing food insecurity in northern Virginia. 4. The Power Pack Program (P3) provides weekend backpack food to Fairfax County public elementary school students identified by school social workers as in need of supplemental food. Over 117,000 packs were distributed last school year, and we're currently serving over 3,900 students each week.

🌟 Spotlight Alert! 🌱 A HUGE shoutout to FRESHFARM for being an incredible partner in the fight against hunger! Thanks to their amazing team, we've been able to connect with local farmers to source fresh, beautiful produce—nourishing our neighbors in need, supporting local agriculture, and helping build a more equitable, food-secure future right here in our community. 💚 Check out FRESHFARM’s latest blog featuring Food for Others and highlighting the power of collaboration in driving community impact! Special shoutout to Lina Salazar Ortegon for joining us and sharing this story! #Foodforothers #FairfaxCounty #Community #LocalFarms #FoodAccess
A few weeks ago, I visited the team at Food for Others—and left deeply inspired by their passion and commitment. They love serving their community, and it shows. Food for Others is one of the 100+ organizations FRESHFARM's Pop-Up Food Hub collaborates with. Together, we help move the abundance of our farmers markets beyond the market—getting fresh, local food to the people who need it most. Organizations like FFO are essential. They support neighbors facing food insecurity by sourcing from our network of small, regional farmers—creating a ripple effect that strengthens local farms, nourishes families, and builds a more equitable food system. That’s the kind of win-win-win we’re proud to be part of! Check out the blog I wrote to see how FRESHFARM is working to build a food system that works for everyone. https://lnkd.in/e4438jER
