June 19, 1865, marks the day when the last enslaved people in the United States were informed of their freedom which was over two years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. Now known as Juneteenth, this day stands as a powerful symbol of delayed justice and the enduring pursuit of liberty. Amyx recognizes the significance of this time to reflect on our nation’s complex history and the strength of those who endured unimaginable hardship in the name of freedom. While Juneteenth commemorates a moment in time, its meaning continues to evolve, reminding us that freedom and progress are not just historical ideals, but responsibilities we carry forward. As a company committed to supporting the mission of public service, we honor the values at the heart of Juneteenth: liberty, service, and shared responsibility. Today, we reaffirm our commitment to fostering a workplace and a community that values every voice and seeks to build a stronger future for all.

As we go into a three-day weekend, I want to wish all of you a happy Memorial Day and hope everyone enjoys the long weekend. Originally named “Declaration Day,” Memorial Day celebrates U.S. military service members who died in the line of duty, reminding us that even in loss, we can find meaning. From the sacrifices of the past, we forge ahead as a nation rooted in remembrance, appreciation, and hope. One of the earliest recorded observances of Memorial Day happened in 1865, when newly freed African Americans in Charleston, South Carolina, held a ceremony to honor Union soldiers buried in a mass grave at a former Confederate prison camp. They reinterred the bodies in proper graves, held a parade, sang hymns, and paid tribute. Today, Memorial Day looks different. Some of us gather for cookouts. Others visit cemeteries or pause in silence. Beneath the surface of flags and fireworks, there’s something we all share: a deep desire to honor those who came before us. We honor those who served and recognize the shared hope that unites us; we hope of a stronger, more compassionate future built together. World events and even those in our country remind of this importance every day. As you celebrate with friends and family members this Memorial Day weekend, take a moment to reflect on the power of unity we can achieve through remembrance. William Schaefer, CEO & President
