In my experience all the communication tools will only yield partial results. It starts with buy-in. We all need to know what’s in it for me, that’s the bottom line I have learned in my 30 years managing teams. Teach, demonstrate, and recognize the benefits of taking the time and energy to be safe. I tell my team, I never want to make the call to your family that you will not be coming home. It is the catalyst to discussing more benefits to help people realize it actually does something for them. It not just corporate busy work to reduce risk. It is, but that’s not what is important to the people. People first. Take care of them and the rest will follow.

It is important that employers effectively communicate safety standards to every employee. Send an Email or Newsletter – If your employees have a company email address, make sure that everyone gets an email outlining safety standards at least once a month.

For ongoing workplaces that have daily operations with long run activities , bulletin boards in centralized locations can serve as an effective communication tool between shifts “take in consideration to be secured to the fullest” . Management members can post daily briefings, safety alerts, policies , or important updates that all shift workers must review and apply .

Safety protocols are the most important thing in a facility. There can be no compromise on these. Have exhaustive SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) on security. Among other measures, these should also include the procedure for handing over of shifts. Have a log book - manual and digital. Both incoming and outgoing shift incharge should sign in these. Have measures to ensure that the shift change cannot be completed till proper handing taking over is done. Have these guidelines printed and placed at all important places in the facility.

Managing safety protocols between shifts is a common challenge, but innovative solutions can make all the difference. Imagine an AI-powered personal assistant, always available to: 🔹 Provide instant access to procedures, ensuring each team member is informed in real time. 🔹 Support teams in their daily tasks by offering reminders, checklists, or answers to their questions. 🔹 Simplify reporting by capturing key information through voice or simple interfaces. 🔹 Ensure seamless communication between teams with digital logbooks and automatic alerts. With this approach, not only do team members gain autonomy and efficiency, but managers also benefit from improved operational visibility.
