You're facing a production crunch in your workshop. How can you secure on-time parts delivery from suppliers?

When production schedules tighten, ensuring your suppliers deliver parts on time becomes vital. Here's how you can achieve that:

  • Build strong relationships: Regular communication and a good relationship with your suppliers encourage reliability.

  • Use technology: Implement supply chain management software to track orders and anticipate delays.

  • Have backup plans: Maintain a list of secondary suppliers to mitigate risks of late deliveries.

What strategies do you use to ensure timely deliveries from suppliers?

I think the most important skill will be to understand your suppliers business model. This will automatically put you in a "forced" position to understand their product/offering, which in itself is extremely important. Understanding this will put you in a position to already identify potential risks well in advance. And you can perhaps mitigate the risk before you have to rely on your backup plan. This is where relationships are extremely important as you sometimes have to make suggestions or assist in implementing solutions which can often be uncomfortable discussions.

All ways keep your stocks with extra especially on products that are used regularly or frequently . Pre order in advance before stock goes down to ensure parts are always available when needed. Always use the OEM products that have guarantee to reduce and to share the risk. Use of part numbers and investing in research of good, best and equivalent after market parts that do not affect warranty on some products
