You're facing backlash from loyal fans over in-game progression changes. How will you regain their trust?

Facing fan backlash requires a thoughtful approach to rebuild trust. Consider these strategies:

  • Openly communicate: Explain the reasons behind changes and how they improve the game.

  • Gather feedback: Engage with fans directly to understand their concerns and suggestions.

  • Offer solutions: Implement fixes or provide alternatives that address core issues.

How do you mend the relationship with your audience after significant updates?

Oof, fan backlash! 😬 First, listen to what they're saying, really listen. 👂 Acknowledge their concerns and be transparent about why the changes were made. 💬 It's not always that they are right!!! If possible, tweak the progression based on feedback and show you're willing to adapt. But always be real with yourself and the KPIs and numbers! Eventually, commercial games are made for business, you'll need to balance things off to find the sweet spot between keeping them satisfied while keeping the game profitable! 🔄 Maybe even offer a goodwill gesture like in-game rewards (won't cost you anything really). 🎁 Most importantly, keep the dialogue open and honest, that’s how trust is rebuilt. 🙌

Listening to the fans and understanding what they want would help the most whilst also communicating why a certain progression is nessecary but also doing and fixing their problems would help a lot

To regain fan trust, we’d start by acknowledging their concerns and opening up transparent dialogue to understand their frustrations. Next, we’d adjust the progression system based on their feedback to show we’re listening. Finally, we’d keep them updated on future improvements to rebuild trust over time.

Oh hey something I can actually answer. It depends on the game. What happened? What were the changes? Why were they made? What was fan expectation? Where's the bar at for your competition? What's the lay of the gaming land? Who's your audience? And ultimately what will come of the backlash? So tl;dr You regain trust just like how you gain it. Through hard fu----- work, listening to your audience, and (listen closely because this is oftentimes the hardest part) collaborating with people internally to make the impossible happen. You can argue all day and night as to who's right and who's wrong but it won't get you anywhere. If things aren't going the way you want spend time fixing it and listening to experts.
