I had that happen to me once. I told the tech if they did not fix the mic, I would give the talk without it. If the talk went well, it would make their boss think that maybe microphones were not necessary. I said it with a smile on my face. Everyone laughed, including the tech. A few minutes later, he fixed the problem, and I told him that I, or rather my throat, thanked him. On the other hand, I explained, now everyone in the audience could hear me clearly, so maybe those planning on having a nap would be angry with him. Then I said, That just goes to show that sometimes you just cannot win. I wove that adage into my remarks.

If you face audio issue during your speech take a deep breath and stay calm. Acknowledge the issue and let your audience know you have things under control. You could use humour as a way of addressing the problem to pacify the audience. If the mic is not working - work on projecting your voice..Move up the front of the stage and throw your voice while making eye contact with the audience. If the problem is the speakers are not working and the videos in your presentation are not audible use storytelling to engage your audience and build a story around your slides while letting the moving visuals guide you. Whatever the problem may be a calm demeanour and adapting on the go can make a world of difference.

I've offered them cookies. Works every time. : ) Like Bruce below, I know how to project (theater training). If I have to, I can make it happen. Same if the screen/computer blows out. I don't need the powerpoint/whatever to do my presentation. I am the presentation at that point. Have to know it before you hit the stage.

When facing audio issues during a speech, stay composed and signal the tech team calmly. Use hand gestures or brief verbal cues to describe the problem. Trust their expertise and give them a moment to fix it without rushing them. Meanwhile, keep the audience engaged with a story or ask a question. Always have a backup plan, like projecting your voice or switching to a different mic, to ensure your message gets through.

no worries for me as I always speak from my blended brain and heart.............rarely need any kind of PowerPoint or any other technology sort of both a blessing and a curse depending upon the audience, of course TJ
