Go around the facility with the management team. Observe potential areas where any kind of abnormality is noticed. Ask like why this inventory kept here, FG area is choked with FG waiting despatch, identify machine conditions, identify each process. Note the 8 wastes, where what exists, ask questions.

For this i will go with the visual management, because visual management is the toll which can easily highlight you the potential failure. Just as a example we have started defect card system for stitching line. in this we have started with the Ten card and if ten card go to the production line you have to stop the production. so to avoid the production stop i have to keep an eye on that defect card and i should take some action before the close of the production.

First step is to standardize, visual management systems are to help people to identify whether or not they are complying with the standard.

In my experience one of the best way is to analyse using ‘Stand in a circle’ concept where you stand in Gemba & try to visualise every aspect of line interruptions & resistance to flow. This is the best place where you ask questions to operators if you misinterpret anything related to process. Capture all the losses there & then by using the VSM it is easy to segregate the VA & NVA. Another important tool is OEE where you can identify the core repetitive issues easily & that is dependent how briefly you have developed your OEE recording sheet. This highlights all the Process & maintenance losses & even the planned losses to initiate kaizen events or A3 problem solving.

It's important to understand the importance of continuous improvement and to learn tools such as PDCA, kaizen events, DMAIC, etc to structure the effort. However, the most important (and most difficult) element is developing and maintaining the culture around this principle from top to bottom. Top management must prioritize continuous improvement and have the courage to invest the labor and capital into efforts that don't always render immediate value. Likewise, middle managers and staff need to feel a sense of ownership, to internally regard themselves as stakeholders with 'skin in the game' to take initiative and contribute in good faith rather than check a box.

1. Look for long factory “snakes.” 2. Look for excess inventory. 3. Look for delays, e. g. waste of waiting as well as others of the 7 wastes. 4. Look for excess labor or labor operations. These are all opportunities to apply lean for improvement in effectiveness and efficiency.
