Admitting ones mistake means a lot. Please have three aspects: The creator who deserves compensation; Other creators who we might want to cooperate with in the future, who will see how we deal with such an incident. And our audience who look at the way we react. Since we represent the very essence of learning, we ought to learn from such an event and create routines that will ensure such errors will not happen again..

If I find out that I’ve used content without proper authorization, the first thing I do is take full responsibility. I reach out to the creator directly and acknowledge the mistake without trying to deflect or justify it. I explain how it happened, and more importantly, I focus on what I’m doing to fix it, whether that’s removing the content, properly attributing it, or securing the right permissions if the creator is open to that. I also take a moment to reflect on my own process to make sure it doesn’t happen again. It’s uncomfortable, but I believe owning the mistake, responding respectfully, and showing genuine effort to make things right helps rebuild trust and reinforces the integrity I want to bring to every project.

In situations involving unauthorized content in course materials, transparency and swift action are key. First, promptly acknowledge the oversight and offer a genuine apology to the creator, demonstrating respect for their intellectual property. Then, immediately remove or replace the unauthorized material to prevent further misuse. Open communication is vital—discuss potential compensation or other remedies to mend the situation. Finally, review your content curation process to prevent such incidents in the future, ensuring your materials meet legal and ethical standards.
