Before you bring AI into your business, take a moment to understand what you truly need. Don’t just follow trends. Think about the small problems that slow you down every day. Maybe it’s too much manual work, delayed replies to customers, or scattered data. When you know the real pain points, you can use AI in a way that actually helps not just looks cool.

In my experience, effective AI integration begins with a precise understanding of business priorities and pain points. Rather than applying AI generically, map specific use cases to strategic objectives such as cost optimization, risk reduction, or enhanced decision-making. Engage business and IT leaders early to ensure alignment. This step is about defining intent and measurable outcomes. By anchoring AI needs to actual operational challenges and strategic goals, organizations reduce wasted investments and build stronger executive sponsorship for transformation.

Consider aligning your proposed AI capabilities with your business goals—identify where AI can add value, like automating processes or enhancing decision-making. Assess your current IT infrastructure to ensure compatibility and scalability, prioritizing cloud-based platforms for flexibility. Clear communication before and during the rollout is essential: What does the plan look like, and what value is being delivered?

We do not need "AI" in our computer systems to derive smart answers. If for example a doctor lacks an assistant to scroll the patient record system to give them the accurate picture they require to make informed decisions, then a perceptual reasoning solution might be used to integrate with the record system to derive the same summary as the assistant. Without smart answers, in this example, health care get out of sync leading to more errors, mistakes and misunderstandings. There is no requirement for training, humans know how to communication, it just therefore an executive decision as to whether or not an assistant is a human or artifical.

I evaluate everything through a strategic lens: API compatibility, model transparency, integration with our data ecosystem, and alignment with enterprise OKRs. I assess vendor maturity, use case validation, and ease of deployment. The flashiest solution means nothing if it breaks workflows or buries insights. I select tools that accelerate outcomes, empower teams, and extend our digital core. Smart AI adoption isn’t about hype. It’s about precision, performance, and purpose.

Choosing the right tools can be both challenging and misleading. Just because a tool is considered top-tier doesn’t mean it’s the right fit at the moment. Well, this isn't true. There is only one AI, which talks with humans. What the AI reflects on is the key. A pilot should mirror what a small group of humans would say when all in the same place/room as one another. That's it.
