You're juggling multiple orders in the kitchen. How do you maintain focus and manage stress effectively?

Amidst the sizzle and chop of a busy kitchen, staying focused and stress-free is key to culinary success. To manage the heat:

- Establish a prep routine. Organize ingredients and tools beforehand to streamline your workflow.

- Communicate with your team. Keep everyone informed about order status and needs to avoid confusion.

- Take brief moments to breathe. Short, mindful breaks can reset your focus and reduce stress levels.

Experience and knowledge guide my effort in a direction that helps me organize my thoughts. Keeping your area clean and organized is essential for efficiency and quality. Clear communication with every team member on the line and the expediter is a must if you are going to succeed. Remembering that you are a part of a team, asking for help or helping someone else when they need it.

Break down each large order into smaller, manageable steps. Then prioritize tasks based on urgency and timing. This ensures that the most important orders get done first. Communicate clearly with your team to coordinate efforts and avoid mistakes, and remind them to stay calm, take a deep breaths and focus on one task at a time.

Working in a fast-paced kitchen environment, especially when juggling multiple orders, can be incredibly demanding. However, the challenge often isn’t just about the volume of orders or the stress of the moment... it’s about the foundational systems in place that either support or hinder the team’s ability to perform efficiently. Over the years, I’ve come to realize that maintaining focus and managing stress effectively in such situations is less about individual resilience and more about the broader structure of the kitchen, the design of the workflow, and the leadership guiding it all.
