Be proactive. When meeting with your supplier contacts discuss what flexibility they have when this and other scenarios arise and create a backup plan. you learn who your real business partner versus who is a mere supplier is when you have an unexpected change. I have worked with more than one supplier rep who is willing to go the extra mile and get creative i.e., go to the warehouse themselves for product or borrow product from one of their other accounts. Those are the companies that you want to do business with. Have an account with more than one vendor and look for those who even though they may be a specialty vendor, carry other items as well. If all else fails, runs to the local markets works too.

Collaborate on demand forecasting to better align with supply availability. Build strong relationships with suppliers to ensure support during challenges and explore alternative sourcing options if necessary.
