So, something I noticed during my brief time interning as a game designer (which hardly makes me an expert on the subject) was the company's use of analytics through social media. After releasing a trailer, or teasing gameplay, much of the prospective gaming market makes hip-fire assumptions about the rest of the game. A more holistic data set to judge game design and development decisions may be to borrow market data in regard to already released games with similar mechanics or design decisions.
