Your disaster recovery plan needs to be both cost-effective and efficient. How do you achieve this balance?

Creating a disaster recovery plan that balances cost and efficiency requires strategic planning and smart resource allocation. Here's how to achieve this balance:

  • Conduct a risk assessment: Identify potential threats and prioritize them based on their impact and likelihood.

  • Invest in scalable solutions: Use cloud-based services that allow you to pay for what you use, scaling up or down as needed.

  • Regularly test and update: Ensure your plan is effective and up-to-date by conducting regular drills and reviews.

What strategies have worked for you in creating an efficient disaster recovery plan?

Planning and risk assessment (e.g., NIST, PASTA) help identify risks and their likelihood, creating a plan for the incident response (IR) team. Access restrictions minimize intrusion risks, especially at the root level. Monitoring through ISP and SIEM systems detects anomalies, enabling the quick disabling of access to prevent intrusions and conserve resources. Automated backups and logs support SOC, CSIRT, and recovery efforts. Using PAYG services with Docker and Kubernetes allows for rapid disconnection and deployment of clusters or containers, ensuring swift recovery with backed-up data, while also saving money when not using full capacity. Regular testing, reviews, and updates are essential for maintaining security and resilience.
