Stage fright is real—but it’s not permanent. I’d start by normalizing the fear. Even pros get nervous. Then I’d coach them through small wins: practice in low-pressure spaces, focus on the message over perfection, and use breathing techniques to stay grounded. Confidence grows through repetition, not magic. I’d encourage feedback loops, celebrate progress, and remind them: the audience wants you to win. It’s not about being fearless—it’s about showing up anyway.

We all have one or two songs—or even just a nursery rhyme like Twinkle Twinkle Little Star—that we know by heart. You can probably hear it playing in your mind right now. Before we even begin addressing stage fright, I work with my clients to reach that same level of familiarity with their material. Once they’ve memorized it so thoroughly that a car could backfire, a baby could scream, or a fire alarm could go off mid-performance—and they still wouldn’t lose their place or focus- we can begin working on calming their fight-or-flight response.
