Your clients demand quick fixes. How can you convince them of the value of preventive maintenance?

When clients crave quick fixes, it's crucial to show them how preventive maintenance can save time and money in the long run.

Clients often seek immediate solutions, but understanding and communicating the value of preventive maintenance can alter their perspective. Here's how to shift the focus:

- Highlight case studies where preventive measures have saved costs and prevented downtime.

- Explain the risks and potential losses associated with reactive approaches.

- Offer a comparison chart showing long-term savings versus short-term fixes.

What strategies have worked for you in highlighting the importance of preventive maintenance?

Run-to-failure and quick fixes are an unfortunate plague in industrial settings. When downtime costs thousands of dollars an hour, most clients don’t care if a bandaid solution only lasts a month—they just want the line back up and running. It just needs to last until the next shutdown. Add in accounting practices that discourage stocking spare parts, and you’ve got a culture where equipment is pushed far beyond its limits with minimal maintenance or proper repairs. It’s a systemic issue. Unfortunately, we live in a world where replacing equipment after it fails is seen as easier and faster than investing in proper maintenance to keep it running reliably.

As quite properly described by Mr. Josh Burroughs in the next post, run-to-failure is commonly understood by many decision makers as the right strategy under the Finance perspective, mainly to continuous production industries, like, for instance, Oil & Gas Upstream & Downstream. Thus, I strongly believe that - though being a more than harsh mission - all efforts must be made on demonstrating that the long-term numbers will surely be better if Prevention is duly applied, instead of simple mitigations (Correction). The same executives who would not accept flying in a plane without due PM, should be able to understand such basic concept. Anyway, as said, it unfortunetelly is not and will never be an easy task ...

Uma forma eficaz para que seu cliente opte pela manutenção preventiva, é apresentar possíves perdas futuras resultantes das paradas desnecessárias ocasinadas pela falta de manutenção preventiva.
