Breaking into the Infosec field can be a challenge even with years of experience in the IT field. I tried to after doing 2 associate degrees - Cybersecurity and also Network Admin. - but was only able to get into Network roles... so that's where I ended up. Over the next few years, I did the Security+ and then the CEH certs, but still couldn't get a job on the Security side. I eventually decided to go back to school to get a Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity ... which is what it took for me to get my first Security (in the job title) role. Only to realize that the skill and knowledge necessary in the role was at the Security+ (i.e. Intro to IT Security 101) level. But that's what it took to finally move (and stay) in the Security field!
