Look at job postings. Look for the job you want to be in when the current era of your career ends. What does it require? Prepare yourself for that role. Follow the trends in IT - 10 years ago Cloud, AI, and Security were concepts, today they are essential. Take these trends seriously and prepare for them. But don't forget the fundamentals: understanding how data is transmitted on a network or network(s) will always be a needed skill, as well as being able to pinpoint and correct why data is not being transmitted. Sharpen your fundamentals before you jump into something more advanced. I know it's boring, but the guy who masters the basic breaststroke will always outswim the guy with a lot of new energy and no experience in the water.
