I once respected and valued peer review, but became concerned several years ago after carrying out detailed reviews of several papers for a print journal and explaining clearly why they were not novel. The journal still published them! Maybe the advent of digital media lowers the hurdle for publication quality, but I am old school and wary of the increase in the publication of minimally incremental studies with largely unsurprising results.
