How do you ensure data accuracy during entry?

In my current position at Roots, I am responsible for taking the data we get through our customer surveys and using it to train/coach the sales team ensuring the highest level of customer service possible. I have created a curated spread sheet as well as a sales floor evaluation that takes that information and scores it on a scale from 1-5. Depending on the score, I will work with the individual the survey was scored on and coach accordingly.

Make sure you’re keying everything at or close to what’s on the document. Paying close attention to what is on said document can ensure 100% accuracy (or close to the mark) and client satisfaction.

Speaking from experience as a financial consultant with a focus on bookkeeping, financial projections, budgeting and financial modelling, this has been my experience in ensuring data accuracy during entry: 1. Well, this is very crucial for the integrity of research. If the data entry is inaccurate so all the results will be inaccurate. Have a plan in place, and with your TEAM you would be able to assign tasks or entry, review, adjustment and re-review or double checking prior to running the analysis... With the new online surveys this issue has become less and less of a worry - but cleaning the data prior to running the analysis is another major issue with these online surveys... So, being careful understanding your research would allow you to immediately spot the error prior to being too late... All the best.

What I like to do is utilize ergonomics to its fullest. In other words, find a chair that's comfortable. Make sure your posture is correct and that you're not slouched over. Make sure your hands are positioned correctly on the keyboard. When your hand position is right, you know that you don't have to keep looking repeatedly at what you just typed. Also, when things are in proper alignment, you reduce your risk of error, along with other issues like carpal tunnel, etc. This will not only help with your accuracy, but also your productivity. Proofreading is the only way by which human being can check spelling, grammar and accuracy without using any software. However, there are many tools available in market by which grammar and accuracy can be checked. Data should be presentable in chunks as well. So that errors can be detect in easy way.

It while most computer programs have built-in engines that check your information for errors and missing values, it is always helpful to have a second, and sometimes third pair of eyes.

I love Excel. I would use it all the time when at Virtus Group LLP - it was, and continues to be my go to program when it pertains to data entry. The auto formulas that are built in to the program can save so much time, and the ability to create you own formulas is also a time saver. I use it in my current position at Roots, and will continue to use it for any other positions i may hold in the future.

Diligence is key to accurate data entry. Dedication to accuracy is a great attribute an encoder should possess. For repetitive entries I resort to using macro, it is truly a life hack for someone in the data entry field.

What simplifies my tasks is to use the best formula or use of various links to avoid manual errors. As requirements change, I adjust automation methods.

It is helpful to have an exceptional eye for pattern recognition and formatting. It's a valuable skill to be able to view a large amount of data or text, yet be able to see where there's an extra space where there shouldn't be, or a spelling error, or where a flow of consistency seems to be broken up. Consistently well-formatted data or text is often as important as accuracy.

I have had to resubmit applications for clients because I was moving too fast and did not check my work. While the system is designed to look for typos, sometimes, typos don't show up. I am a firm believer in an extra thirty seconds today can save you hours tomorrow. I am constantly telling myself to slow down and check for errors before submitted. Saves me time and effort while also ensuring a smooth client experience.

the trouble sometimes with touch typists/encoders is when we think that we keyed in the correct alpha/numeric entry, but sometimes gadgets mishap come into play. So it is wise to always make sure that all tools are working one hundred percent, especially if we are encoding numerical entries and there is no way that we could readily check whether we keyed in the right entry.

Use various proofreading techniques, in addition to an application that checks for grammar / spell checker, manually re-read, read backwards, read aloud and compare with source data, proofread segments as well as entire data project. In addition, if possible get help and allow someone else to proofread your work. Allow enough time for additional proofreading, like clearing your mind and in a day or two proofread again. I feel having a clear template for and communication on, data entry are important but what happens when the template & "requirements" constantly change and is like a moving target. Causing what appear to be errors but are really just, not being able to stay ahead of the perpetually changing curve.

I believe that data entry should be about attention to details more than the speed process itself. Also data should be organized for perfect results. Any little mistake ruins the entire process and gives wrong results

In my opinion, maintaining data accuracy is so important rather than giving focus to speed. Because with one wrong entry, the entire data gives the wrong result. While using templates, the data cleaning process and proofreading help to reduce the error and maintain the data accuracy.

i think efficiency and effectiveness are equally important in achieving results and can be achieved by paying attention to detail, having checks in place and proof reading.
