It can be difficult to deal with a project shake-up. Being truthful with your clients and staff is the best course of action. Clearly describe the circumstances, the additional resources required, and how they will affect the finished work. Offering different approaches or a changed schedule might occasionally assist to ease tensions. To overcome these obstacles, keep in mind that open communication is essential.

I’ve found that clear communication and preparation are the keys to successfully negotiating for more resources or time. One approach that has worked for me is to outline exactly how the changes will impact the project whether that’s in terms of quality, deadlines, or scope. I also provide detailed options: what we can achieve with the current resources versus what additional support could deliver.

It sounds obvious, but I forget to do this all the time: don't simply complain offhand to a manager or partner about how strapped for time or resources you are. Demonstrate and communicate exactly what the issue is, and more importantly show exactly how having those resources would change your workflow for the better. It's not an automatic solution, but you put yourself in a better position to get those things.
