For a rapid response/command interface application such as in-car guidance, keep the language succinct. Offer as few options as possible: 2 are great, 3 is the limit. Allow the user to back up, or have the options repeated, as opposed to starting over.

Never assume that the user can use their device as a backup when the voice command fails. They may be using a voice only interface due to disability or a crying child being comforted by mom or dad. Always let them know after a pause they can do x to repeat, replay etc. Be succinct in what gets repeated back to the user. Telling me my wife “liked my message” is better than saying “your wife liked ‘thanks babe I hope you have a good yada yada …’” Siri just made this change and it was a welcome one. Now if they’d only “fix” the announcement of a group names with emoji. Skip the emoji just let me know the group name.
