Teams are clashing over system integration issues. How do you handle the conflicts effectively?

System integration clashes can slow down progress and create tension among teams. To handle this effectively, prioritize open communication and foster collaboration. Here are three tangible strategies:

  • Facilitate regular meetings: Schedule frequent check-ins to discuss progress, challenges, and align on goals.

  • Define clear roles and responsibilities: Ensure everyone knows their tasks and how they contribute to the integration process.

  • Encourage cross-functional training: This helps team members understand each other's roles, promoting empathy and cooperation.

A very common statement is "Issues is in integration , we had send the data" :) and this comes from all be is source system , target system ,provider , consumer , 3rd Party , B2B Partner , SaaS api's . Anyone who has being in integration will hear this often . How to handle it :) Process - Need to have clear documentation specially mapping & transformation document's to ensure that all systems in scope of integration know on what contract/specification they will work correctly. Technology - Monitoring & Observability to have clear visibility on has it hit , what has came in , has it processed , why and where failed . Not in your Control - check with Network, load balancer, firewall etc. element not in control of application support teams.

Identify the Root Cause: Understand the underlying reasons for the conflict. It could be due to differing priorities, miscommunication, or a lack of understanding of the technical aspects. Facilitate Open Communication: Create a platform where team members can voice their concerns and viewpoints openly. This can help in clearing up misunderstandings and fostering a collaborative atmosphere. Set Clear Objectives: Ensure that everyone is aligned with the common goals of the integration project. Having clear and shared objectives can help reduce conflicts arising from differing agendas. Role Definition: Clearly define the roles and responsibilities of each team member. This helps in avoiding overlaps and confusion.
