Remote vocal coaching is a very viable option for many people who are not near a traditional voice instructor. A few tips to consider: Use the live music feature of zoom. Don't allow for automatic noise cancellation. Don't try to real time accompany your students. Instead, use a call and response type of cadence where you play the cord and let the student sing the scale after. Record the lesson to the cloud and share the link with the student at the end of the lesson. You don't have to wait for the video to process before sharing the link. Have the student prepare some accompaniment tracks they can sing to so there is no time delay.

When the pandemic hit, it was hard moving from years of lessons that were based on live performances and the interaction of student and teacher side to side. As a classical singer myself, I tried to follow along the pre-recorded accompaniments as my teacher tried to have the best tools to hear me well. It’s not impossible to teach singing remotely, it’s just extra work. Using a good microfone, good headphones and also a well-set-up camera (because the posture and the face are also important factors) helps the online sessions to move smoothly.

The key to successful remote lessons is to use a dependable video conferencing service with reliable sound. The service needs to also allow use of multiple cameras and/or microphones. The second tip is to be creative. I teach piano remotely and with the use of software, apps and creativity we can do anything that can be done in an in person lesson aside from touch. Use as many resources as possible. What ever it takes to get the point across.

I integrated all this tool to enhance the experience of the artists. I also record custom made warm up vocalizations to ensure they can practice every day.
