20 hours ago comment added John the solution to that is to make your central wheel bigger than the rear wheels, and put your engine in the back aka don't try to fit a box around a tripod build a tripod. Alternative, center pivot steering, aka frame steering, best of both worlds, stability AND maneuverability. engineering issues could even explain central seating.
yesterday comment added Themoonisacheese @Trish we did do this for a while, but front-single wheel tricycles are not really stable at high speeds because the forces in a turn turn out to be exactly over the part where there's no wheel. it's also generally pretty useful to double up on grip for your steering wheels ;)
