Today, at the halfway point, I’m proud to share how far we’ve come and where we’re going next. ESG is a key enabler of our strategic progress - our net zero programme is helping us unlock supply chain efficiencies; our industry framework for sustainable products meets our customer's needs for choice, trust and transparency; and our values-based culture is helping us to attract amazing people and empowering them to learn, grow and thrive at RS. What an incredible evening at Friday's Rainbow Honours awards in London. Our CEO, Simon Pryce, was a finalist in the Corporate Ally of the Year category and we were also delighted to see our friends at myGwork - LGBTQ+ Business Community scoop the top award for Global LGBTQIA+ Initiative of the Year for WorkPride, which we proudly sponsor and support. “From the word go, we made money.” - Paul Martin Sebestyen, co-founder of RadioSpares It was 1936 in London. Paul, Johann Herbert Waring and Johann’s brother, Heinz, all met in a lock-up garage off Lanark Villas. They had three cars between them and £15 in capital. That’s how Radiospares (now RS Group) began. Not with a boardroom, but with car boots full of capacitors and a one-page price list. “We were hawkers,” Paul admitted. “We loaded up our cars with bits and pieces and went round. It was very hard graft indeed.” On 14 September 1936, they made it official and RadioSpares was born. The HQ? A former gas company “penny office” in London. The product list? Ten items, typed on a single sheet. The promise? Same-day dispatch. 24-hour-service. No exceptions. And they did it in the middle of blackouts, bombings, and bureaucracy. In an era of handwritten invoices and postal orders, they offered something radical: speed, service, and scrappy ambition.
